We picked up this book for our daughter a couple of years ago, and she only read part of the book. Apparently the scene where the main character got his face stuck to the rock he was climbing turned her off, so perhaps if your 4th/5th grader is put off by such things this isn't a great choice. On the other hand, if your student loves adventure books that have some deeper lessons, this would probably be a great read!
